Is their a bus route map in this city?
Asking around, most people seem shocked anyone would ask, and I see this online for other Mexican cities but I cannot seem to find online or at any tourist establishment a printed bus route map for Guanajuato Gto.
(If this has been answered, sorry but I can't seem to find a "search" option in this forum.) Here's my question" From looking at the writing on the buses, a search for "transportes urbanos avalos guanajuato mapa" showed only sparse info about how the bus route changed during the rally last year and what I have been told, when the Pope visited. Does anyone have a photo or a copy of a route map or can point me to the bus route website? I have found a couple of buses I use that take me from the Hidalgo market up into the hills but I would like to continue to branch out exploring the outskirts of the city using the local bus system. From all I can tell, the "Transportes Urbanos Alvos" on the side of the buses points to a company located at the address below. Before I hike up there and just receive the standard shoulder shrug, I was wondering if someone could save me a few more laps chasing my tail :-) Transportes Urbanos De Guanajuato Avalos Dirección: San Clemente No. 23 CP/Loc.: 36000 Guanajuato - Guanajuato Centro Teléfono: 01 473 732 6945 |

RE: Is their a bus route map in this city?
I called this place today and they say they have no maps available, and I should call the office of Municipal Transportation (732-2505). I called them and they told me they have no maps, that the office of tourism next to Plaza de Union has the transportation routes.
Not the last time I checked but I guess it's worth another try. |

"... that the office of tourism next to Plaza de Union has the transportation routes." As you probably already suspect this get filed under FAT CHANCE as you are just being bounced around. If the bus company office doesn't have maps well...
PROJECT IDEA if someone has spare time: Let's assume there are 50 routes in the city. At 5 pesos a ride that would total 250 pesos plus maybe another 125 pesos for routes where one had to bus back aways to meet another route before continuing - so maybe 375 pesos total. GTOLIST will, from its somewhat underwhelming but still adequate coffers, underwrite the project in exchange for its logo as patrocinador being used on printed or electronic versions. Buses run from from before 6am to around 10pm. A real go-getter could get this done in a day or two. Volunteerrs? |

RE: Is their a bus route map in this city?
Sounds like a fun project. It would be easiest perhaps to find a common smartphone app for use by the volunteer trackers that logged GPS coordinates from your continuously changing location as you travel along the route. If everyone mapping the route used the same app then the input could be used and combined into a common display map such as Google maps.
I looked at a couple of software "app" packages on Google Play, including MapMyRide and GPS Logger. You never know until you try them out if they'll do what you need. I am thinking that there would also need to be a drop anchor feature on the phone "app" to where pushing a button marked the bus stops with special notation. I know I have dumbly gone chasing buses that didn't stop at marked bus stops leaving me madly chasing after them because I was so frustrated. |

RE: Is their a bus route map in this city?
Seems there's a real need for a map of GTO bus routes. Great conversation on this, but now a few years old.
Has anyone since found or put together a map of GTO bus routes? I would love to have it, if so. Anyone? |

RE: Is their a bus route map in this city?
We've never seen or heard of a transit map, but it's a good idea SO LONG AS it's updated regularly. Bad info is sometimes worse than no info at all. We find that asking bus drivers is the best source of info. As with everything, though, some folks are more helpful than others!
