Funicular Falls, Cable Breaks, One Injured
Article about the funicular falling and an employee being injured. Fortunately, nobody died. I've often wondered, riding up the funicular, what the chances are of something like this happening. According to the article in Spanish linked to below, the owners had been warned that the funicular required urgent maintenance to function without risk and apparently had done nothing.

I don't think I will be riding up the funicular again anytime soon.

For those of us who live on or near the Panoramica, the funicular is an important transportation artery. It's important for the businesses close to the Pipila monument, too.

I've asked around, and it sounds like it's going to be months before the funicular is operational again.
