el Incendio Cantina
A sensitive subject. Ladies and the faint of heart do not read on. Fair warning.
Please help me settle an argument with a friend. In the 70's there was a bar in Leadville that still had a p*ss ditch around the bar, so that the miners didn't have to go back to the men's room to p** or spit. I think there is another in Virginia City, NV. Neither was operational. As I recall from my visit in 2006, the one in El Incendio was still in use. Is it still? Was it in 2006? In 2006 I believe El Incendio was just a miner's bar, but from what I read it now has a younger clientele. |

RE: el Incendio Cantina
"Is it still? Was it in 2006?" No and no.
"In 2006 I believe El Incendio was just a miner's bar...." Also wrong. Your friend wins. Don |

OLD SCHOOL CANTINAS IN GUANAJUATO
There are some decals on the bar mirror that we put there back in 2001 when we had some OLD SCHOOL off road club meetings. All types of folks would frequent this cantina and many other CANTINAS in GTO, Valenciana and Santa Rosa.
The funny thing was that back then you were labeled as a drunk to be seen in there or exiting el Incendio and now it is full of young students and some tourists, still a great place to catch a cold reeb and mezcalito. All in all Guanajuato is the largest Cantina in Mexico! |

RE: el Incendio Cantina
Dagnabbit, but thanks Don. It's still a good enough story though that I'm not sure I'll give it up.
Ponce, it was you that told me to go in there in the first place, and I'm glad I did. There were quite a few miners in there, and later I stumbled (figuratively) onto another miners bar, on the left going up Sangre de Christo towards Jardin Embajadoras. Folks were friendly there too. |
