Great local beer
This is my first winter in Guanajuato. For me, part of traveling is enjoying the local
food and beverage. While I am reveling in the food available to me here, so far everywhere I go seems to serve the same bottled beer. It's okay, but I've heard that
there are good, local craft breweries around. So, I ask for help in two ways:
1. Which establishments can you recommend for this?
2. With my still limited Spanish, what should I ask for, besides " la cerveza de
barril?"

Salud!

RE: Great local beer
IMHO, the best local beer available is Barroca, which comes from Irapuato, and specifically their Vienna Ale.

Dos Aves, in SMA, has an excellent barley wine, but their products only seem to be available at a couple of places in SMA.

The two "genuinely local" brands are Gambusino and Embajador. They both have stouts that are good, and Gambusino has a good porter. (I think Barroca has a porter, too.)

As you've noticed, Modelo has a near monopoly on distribution. Other than restaurants, the only sales outlet I know of for any of the above products is The Beer Company on Cantarranas, near the Plaza de San Francisco.

If hoppy makes you happy then the Gambusino Indian pale ale is the best you'll get around here. A few local bars and restaurants carry it but the brewery is on the panoramica just below Mellado.and there it is 25 pesos a bottle. They have stout, a black IPA, IPA, porter and a few others. You can also find beers from around the world at the Beer store on Cantarranas

RE: Great local beer
About a year ago Mega had a big display of Huber beer from Monroe, WI, complete with a Spanish label. I thought that was great, but not for 40 pesos a bottle. This isn't San Miguel. Then the price went down and I bought. It went down more and more and I bought 2 cases. I have one bottle left. But it was good.

I have seen decals on car windows about Gambusino but didn't know any more. I'll look for the brewery. Is there any sign? That would be amazing. Can you see it from the Panoramica? I'd like to try it. Sounds good. More info please.

RE: Great local beer
I've walked by The Beer Company before. Now I'll know what to ask for. Great
suggestions. Thanks.
