Knee problems
I am having knee pain and would like to see a competent orthepedic doctor. I am willing to go to Leon or San Miguel. Has anyone had experience with such a doctor here? Also, I have he names of two physical therapists, Blanquita Mindez and Claudia Vivas here in GTO. Does anyone know if they are still available? I love to exercise and needless to say, knee pain is interfering!

RE: Knee problems
I don't have an ortho recommendation but there is an excellent PT, named Claudia, that comes in once a week (on fridays I believe) from Leon each week. She uses an office at Centro Laurel, on the callejon adjacent to Positios and between Plazas San fernando and San Roque

RE: Knee problems
Voltaran gel is a topical NSAID that is enormously helpful for knees, elbows and hands. WAY cheaper here than in the US. It's out on the counter at Commercial.

RE: Knee problems
Hi Karen,
I second Donna's recommendation for Claudia. You can call her at the Kier Physical Therapy Clinic in Leon (477-773-6166) to make an appointment to see her here on a Friday.
There are several orthopedists here in Guanajuato at the Centro Medico de la Presa, tel. 102-3100. I've seen two of them on emergency visits when I broke my foot last year (Dr. Gabriel Barroso), and again a few months ago when I fractured my kneecap (Dr. Rodrigo Carrasco, who had to do emergency surgery on my knee). I was satisfied with both of them. Some people recommend Dr. Contreras there, too, but I haven't had any personal experience with him.
But in my opinion the best orthopedist I've been to is Dr. Jose Ramon Centeno Lopez, who has been treating my hip. He is very well-informed, professional, and has an excellent reputation as a surgeon (he operated on two of my co-workers), For me, equally important, he is the kind of doctor that gives you tons of information, answers questions completely, pulls up photos and other articles on the internet, never tries to rush you through a consultation, and has a wonderful personality. I work at the University of Gto., and he comes to the Red Medica in Noria Alta once a week on Wednesdays, but I don't think you can see him there. I don't have a telephone number for him in Leon, there are several numbers listed on internet because he operates in several hospitals in Leon. All are area code 477: 771-5441, 771-6421, 212-2436, and 161-1373
If you can't reach him at those numbers, you can send him an email at ortopedistacenteno@gmail.com
Good luck with your knee!
Barbara

Thank you, DML, Kathryn, and Barbara for your responses. I will definitely get hold of Claudia, try the topical Volaran, and locate Dr. Jose Ramon Centeno Lopez! THANK YOU!
