Great in every respect: 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe (smallish SUV)
I love this vehicle but want to get a Mexican-registered ride, probably another Hyundai.:(

SIMILAR to specifications at
http://www.allworldauto.com/auto_classif...easemotors
(Mine is not four-wheel drive.)

This is the second Hyundai I have owned and I cannot praise it too highly. Warranties remain.

I bought it new March, 2006. Mileage nearing 50,000. It has been sheltered all its life.

Registered in Texas and, as a permanent resident of M?xico, I no longer want to pay the registration fee ($68.00 dollars) nor ever again drive to the U.S.

Details a-plenty if you are interested. Asking $13, 650 but will listen to reason.

As far as I know there is no problem with making this transition in M?xico. It requires my bill of sale to you after your payment reaches my bank in Texas. But remember that only cars ten-years old can be registered in M?xico--unless you pay import duties.

Sorry, Doyle, but it's completely illegal for you to sell your US-plated car in Mexico. Mexican law requires that you return it to the border. Anyone buying your car in Mexico would be unable to register it here and would have an illegal vehicle on his hands.

What you could do, if you find a buyer here, is accompany the buyer to the border, turn in your vehicle permit there, and then make the sale in Texas. The buyer could then drive the car back into Mexico and acquire his own permit.

Doyle, Don is correct.

Although you can accept money and hand a buyer the keys and paperwork for your car you cannot sell/trade/amend or have ammended the import permit. If that car stays in Mexico you are liable for whatever harm it causes - the new 'owner' could let's say just walk away from a personal injury accident and you'd be on the hook for any damages.

Regardless the book value of the vehicle it will be diminished by the hassle of you getting it [and the new owner] to the border, turning in the permit then turning the car over to the new owner who would then have to get his/her own permit and then the car, you and the new owner getting back here.

Really $68/year (a bit over $5/month) doesn't seem like a lot but there are a couple of alternatives: just don't pay it if you never intend to go back across but this may affect your ability to get Mexican insurance [not required] on the car. Option two: Consider registering the car in Clay County South Dakota which accepts non-resident registration [only place in the nation from what I'm told --really all those people around Lake Chapala are not South Dakotans - only their cars are and here in GTO so is mine as I had a TX car with 3 year out of date tags and I continue to cross the border but as a SoDak [Great Faces Great Places] not a Texan.

You could consider what Austin in SMA did - she found a car broker in Laredo to take her Bora off her hands.
