Local auto industry
Informative CNBC piece here on Mexico's exploding auto industry. With latest facility opening today in Celaya, Mexico will even surpass Japan as an auto exporter. Most of the plants mentioned here are in State of Guanajuato.

This may explain what appears to me to be high prices here compared to other locations in Mexico heartland -- with exception of SMA. Who knows maybe soon the auto industry will start to think about Detroit as a good place for cheap labor and land.
