Taxis ? Leon Airport to GTO and Back???

I know that the taxi ticket sellers inside the Leon airport charge 450 pesos for a "secure" taxi to GTO. I noticed many taxis parked outside. Can you hire them directly and negotiate a price with them? If so what would be a reasonable price? In returning to the Leon airport from GTO how much should a taxi that you hail on the street cost to take you to the Leon airport?
What is the difference, if any, between the green taxis and the white taxis? Are there collective airport vans between Leon and GTO? Th[/b][/size]anks, Gloria

I hired a private car (arranged by my landlord) for 600 pesos plus parking fees (20 pesos I recall) a round trip to The Leon Airport to pick up my bride then returning to Guanajuato.

The taxis outside the airport in Leon only take the vouchers you buy inside. Guanajuato taxis are not allowed to solicit customers from the airport, unless pickup is arranged in advance. The reason Leon airport taxis are expensive is that they pay airport fees.

I am not sure but I believe the taxi rates are fixed across all companies based at the airport.

It is unlikely that you can get a cab or other transportation from the Leon airport which is called Ex Aeropuerto Nacional San Carlos de Le?n and located off to the side of the Puerta Milenio as you enter Leon. All that is left of the airport is the control tower and some of the hangers which have been converted to other uses. The current airport [opened in the 1990's and located in the city of Silao] is called Aeropuerto Internacional de Guanajuato [referring to the State not the City] and operating as AEROPUERTO DEL BAJ?O, S.A. DE C.V.

The secure taxis which are not from separate companies -there are just several booking desks- seem to be operated by the airport owner, Grupo Aeroportuario del Pac?fico, as they are painted the same in other airports [eg GDL, MLM, TIJ] operated by this group.

The gypsy cabs are something recent at BJX. Previously the 'secure taxi' was the only operator allowed. Federales patrolled and stopped any other taxi.

Even though the secure cabs are sort of a racket I think you are taking on extra risk using the gypsies .

From the thread title "Leon Airport to GTO and Back???" is this for a round trip ride or two separate journeys? and is the the starting point actually BJX? or is the order reversed? BTW the 'secure' cabs from the airport are not allowed to make any pick-ups from GTO or elsewhere which in part is justification for their higher price.

I'm looking at flights into Leon airport, and the best fare will arrive at 11:20 p.m. Will we be able to get a taxi from the airport to Guanajuato centro at that time of night? Do they charge more if there are taxis that late? We certainly want to know that we won't arrive and be stranded at the airport. Thanks in advance for any answers. Sure am looking forward to returning to Guanajuato!

If there is a plane landing, I am pretty sure there will be a taxi. ;) 11:20 PM is 'early evening' in Mexico.

We have met family and friends at that late arrival time at BJX and there is plenty of action, cabs included, going on. No problem getting a ride.
