Salt & Health
Well, I will open my big mouth. Yes, I agree that salt is bad for us -- in excess. So is fat, sugar, sodas, and ALCOHOL -- in excess. Are restaurants going to reduce or take away those items also? I think NOT. I, for one, enjoy my salt, and at times, add more that I need to. But I am 67 years old and I think I am capable of knowing what is good and bad for me. I consciously decide whether to add it or not. I don?t need the "salt police". So, I shall carry my own salt shaker from now on. HA! :P The truth of the matter is that IF it saves the restaurants money they?ll do it without a fight. If they had to reduce or take away sugar, fat, or ALCOHOL, because is bad for your health, habit forming, and/or (like salt) in excess, it will kill you, we would see them fighting for THEIR right to MAKE MONEY. Trust me, it has NOTHING to do with our health. They couldn't care less. Let?s not kid ourselves... |

RE: Salt
Please dear Martha tell us how you really feel! The shakers are still available by request, just no longer on the table. A subtle way to improve our diet and hopefully help us live better and longer. See you soon.

Well, thank you my dear JESM, thank you, you know I will... Be careful what you ask for... ;) (Oh, please, lighten up!)
I checked my feelings again and, yes, I still FEEL the same way. "Paying customers" should have the right to be served salt, pepper, fat, sodas, water, alcohol, etc., without having to be policed about their health. What are we? Children? Did posting my opinion offend your sensibilities? I noticed a little sarcasm in your response :D. The article did touch a nerve. Interesting? Sure. I, too, hope it is duplicated everywhere. We all have an opinion, don?t we? Thank God we still enjoy the right and privilege of freedom of speech. I hope that is never questioned, and that we continue to PROTECT and RESPECT it. Can we just agree to disagree? Martha Roberts Cell: 473 120 0633 |

RE: Salt
A few comments:
Natural salt mined from salt deposits far away from industrial contaminants have various minerals included in the salt which is MUCH better than refined white salt (which also has additives), not only in taste, but also for one's health. People who have a degenerative disease or cancer, especially, should avoid ALL refined foods, salt and sugar. Sugar, in the form of unrefined pulverized cane sugars. is also much better for a person than the refined type ( white ). Same with bread, the more white and refined, the worse it is for ones health. All in moderation, including soft drinks, coffee, and alcohols ( better again to stay away from cheap beers that have many BAD additives, cheap liquors that aren't triple distilled ( like vodka, for example ) WILL give a person a MAJOR headache/hangover the next day after drinking. Some instant coffee tastes incredibly horrible ( CAFE DE ORO for example) and all instant coffees involve a chemical process for extraction. Better to get fresh roasted beans and grind them yourself. Some people can eat garbage food every day of their lives and live to 100, while others are much more sensitive to additives, refined foods, fats, fast foods, cigarettes, alcohol, coffee, GMO's ...and so on. No one is the same as another person, although there IS a food wisdom that applies to everyone. Like smoking is really bad, excess alcohol ages a person fast, TRANS-FATS are terrible, drinking Coke or something similar every day is damaging to health, refined foods (including bread, sugar, salt, etc.) is crap to the body, GMO's are considered a dangerous unknown factor, pesticides and herbicides are linked to degenerative diseases. Age isn't a guarantee that a person will follow that wisdom, but it's THEIR CHOICE. I agree with the lady who wrote that we all have a right to or own opinion, folly, food preferences etc.....after a person reaches the age where a GOV can send your ass off to be killed in some fake war, everyone has the right not to be manipulated, controlled, belittled or mocked for their choices. Even so-called health experts are now saying red meats eaten daily are bad for one's health. Some people prefer eating vegetarian, and some even go so far as a RAW fruit and vege diet. I like my meat, my beer or other occasional alcohol drinks , sugar in my coffee, milk products, an occasional white bread sour dough sandwich, etc. Worse for one's health are negative energies, like anger, fear, worry, envy, gluttony, torpor, cruelty....and others. |
