Appliance Repair
I had a very positive experience this morning at a local appliance repair place. I took in a fan on which I thought the motor possibly was burnt out -- it apparently received heavy use the past two summers by house-sitters. The repair man looked at it, and after a couple of tests, made a diagnosis that the axle was clogged with dust and (probably) fine cat hair! He unscrewed the cover, cleaned the offending part, turned the blades a few times by hand to loosen things up, and ?un milagro! I now have a functioning fan! He did all this while I waited, and then refused to take any money for this repair! I thought the least I could do is pass on the information and my hearty recommendation:

Repair shop is on the alleyway leading to the Plaza San Fernando. This is the alleyway that is closest to the Plaza de la Paz. As you are in the alleyway, going toward the Plaza San Fernando, his tiny shop is on the left, across from the store that sells childrens' clothing.

He repairs blenders (of course), all manner of small appliances, and washing machines and refrigerators. Servicio en domicilio. He also has blender parts in stock.

And if your microwave goes awry, you can take it to San Jeronimo on Sangre de Cristo on the right most of the way to Embajadoras. 50 pesos review charge, then the repair on mine $150 more. Not cheap but a new m'wave wouldn't have been either. But be sure to state firmly that you don't want a repair done if that's how you feel.

RE: Appliance Repair
I have known that repairman for years here. And, that's right, he's very generous, carries sealing rings for pressure cookers, and lots of other small appliance parts. I don't think he's set up for working on large appliances, but probably can fix certain things, like a refridgerator fan or replace a belt on a washing machine.

Any used small appliances you have that aren't working, that you don't want, he will take and recycle the parts, etc.
