at the border
Assuming that the info below is correct and current.

When i last entered Mexico, this year at Easter, there was nothing asked about proof of income.

The Question: Do you know whether the requirement is satisfied by 6 months of bank statements?

Tourist visas
If applying for a Tourist Visa you will need to submit the following documentation:
? Passport with minimum of 6 months? validity.
? Application form.
? 1 passport-size photo.
? Original return ticket.
? Fee (payable in cash only).
? Proof of sufficient funds (US$50 per day) to cover length of stay. ? Postal applications must be accompanied by a covering letter specifying the purpose of the trip and the dates of entry and departure. Applications should be made in a stamped, self-addressed envelope with recorded or registered delivery.

RE: at the border
We were just told this past weekend that the new rules were posted on the "civil-list SMA" and anyone who has an FM2 or FM3 is now required to have proof of income of $1,900 USD a month (each person) and must travel back to the US/MX border every 6 months for renewal and each time show proof of income. This may be just a rumor, but it needs validation by Martha Roberts before this list, like to SMA list "catches on fire!"

Jacquie, Good post.

A little common sense would suggest that one look at the validity dates of their FM-2/3's before heading for the border after 180 days. Mine is valid for a year and I expect that is the same for everyone else - and think about it: You get tourist cards (FMT's) at the border not Immigration documents. But I'm sure all those SMA folks who believe the scuttlebutt will have a fine and dandy time at the border trying to , in their limited Spanish, explain what they are trying to accomplish.
