Master Mexican Artists Arrive in San Miguel for Day of the Dead
Day of the Dead Altars and Master Artists at Casa de la Cuesta
Jacobo Mendoza; Weaving and Natural Dying Blanca Gomez; Folk Carving and Painting November 1 and 2 2:00 Pm to 6:00 Pm Casa de la Cuesta, Cuesta San Jose #32 No Admission Fee ? Free 415- 154-4324 Jacobo Mendoza, the highly acclaimed master weaver from Teotitl?n del Valle, Oaxaca will bring his exquisite rugs to Casa de la Questa for his 6th annual show, November 1 & 2. Jacobo weaves his intricate patterns, often traditional Zapotec designs, entirely from memory, never from a drawing plan. He works exclusively with natural dyes - many of which he grows himself. Extraordinary quality is evident in every aspect of his work. Jacobo is a delight to meet and loves to explain the entire process, so come, enjoy an afternoon with this wonderful artist and see the delightful altars at Casa de la Cuesta. Jacobo works with all natural dyes, many from the plants his family grows. He excitedly says "tuve la oportunidad de tener un encuentro con un maestro tintorero a nivel mundial el es Michael Garc?a de Francia y ahora yo he perfeccionado mi t?cnica de los tintes naturales!" (I had the opportunity of a workshop with the master Dyer Michael Garcia and now I am perfecting my techniques of natural dying). He weaves with wool, silk, cashmere and metallic threads and his designs skills are extraordinary and creative. We hope you will join us for this annual tribute to living artistry. This year Jacobo will also give a demonstration of the new dye techniques he learned with French slow- dye master Garcia at the Charco del Ingenio on Tuesday Oct. 30 at 10:00 AM. Heidi Lavassure (ower of Casa de la Cuesta) will give a special altar talk on the 1st in conjunction with the Calaca Festival. |
