Cream of Tartar
Does any one know where it is sold? I've tried MEGA in both the baking and spice aisles and can't find it.

Also yeast seems to have disappeared from MEGA - it used to be stocked next to birthday candles.

The candy store in the Mercado Hidalgo has a lot of baking supplies, believe it or not. This is the store next to the corner grocery store (with the hanging candles) on the west wall of the Mercado. If you aren't successful there, try the store in the corner, against the north wall.

I have bought yeast in the bakery at Mega. You have to buy a whole bag, but it doesn't cost much.

RE: Cream of Tartar
There are two types of yeast here: levadura seca and levadura h?meda. We've found the former at the Mega--next to the birthday candles, as you say--but like so many things at the Mega, it comes and goes.

Gela prefers levadura h?meda. It's sometimes available in various panificadoras (as opposed to panader?as), but we've found over the years that it also comes and goes. Lately we've found it at a hole-in-the-wall store about halfway up Mendiz?bal, the steep street that heads up toward the Alh?ndiga just before you get to Mercado Hidalgo.
