Battery Disposal/Recycling
From time to time I see collection points around town but now that my box of dead batteries is full [maybe 15kg!] I don't recall where they are located. Does anyone know?

Thanks

Wow. That's a lot of batteries, Mr. Bill.

I've often noticed a jar full of batteries in the doorway of the hole-in-the-wall photographer's studio on Sope?a, between the newsstand and the Methodist (I think) church.

I don't know if this is the same place as Don's, but the hole-in-the-wall photographer's studio in the plaza, between the news stand and the Church of San Francisco recycles batteries. There is a jar full of batteries in the doorway as well.

Hey Bill,
If you find that the hole in the wall photography place no longer accepts batteries (there was a sign there saying that a few weeks ago), ask at the Kodak shop across the street from Zilch -- they took my old batteries when I bought two new ones and said they would recycle them... although I didn't see a jar there.

If that doesn't work, drop them off at the Language School. There is always a jar upstairs outside the offices, and at the "ventanillas" -- the entrance is street level on Calle del Sol, next to the primary school, one block up from the post office. That door should be open for summer Spanish classes, but if not, we return from vacation on July 23rd. There should be other collections points in all university buildings, too, since recycling of batteries, paper, CDs, plastic bottles, and aluminum is supposed to be mandatory. Emphasis on supposed to be -- many schools ignore the rules.

The place to take them is the Palacio de Gobierno Municipal between the Jardin and Plaza de la Paz. Go in the first door to the left (Comunicacion Social) or ask at the info counter on the right.

They may go into shock when they see how much you're bringing! They accept everything from hearing aid batteries on up except of course car batteries. Note: The photographer near the San Francisco church no longer does recycling.

There's also a moderate-sized battery recycling jar just inside the front door of the Soriana supermarket, on the road to Valenciana just past Hotel Castillo Sta Cecilia.
