Yes, it's now the Mexican law of the land that a a real letter (a faxed one won't do) is necessary from your bank supporting your monthly income when you apply for a NEW visa.

Re IMSS: the ADIMSS card that Brooke mentioned is available at the IMSS hospital in Cantador THIS WEEK, not as I said at the clinic in Cata. What happens after this week I don't know. Be sure to take an original utility bill as well as passport, visa, the IMSS cartilla and your best manners--people will help you if you let them. At the front window, if you don't have the paper document that attests to the CURP on your visa, the receptionist will prepare the form for you. To pay your IMSS subscription, upstairs in the Casa de Moneda is still the place to go. If you have any doubts about your payment month, go there with your ADIMSS, cartilla and if possible evidence of last year's payment.
