amigos de animales.......pl.....pl.....pl help me in our campaign to
change the new directive from the mexican government dated may 10, 2012 to
all the airlines forbidding "pets in the cabin" TO/FROM MEXICO. as a
result i will be unable to bring "schnapps" my miniature dachshund and "el
campeon de san miguel" to race in the yearly "wiernernationals" in
westminister, california this july 14th after he has been training for
close to a year. not only am i disappointed by this edict but living in
san miguel de allende, mexico there are many ex-pats and americans living
abroad with their animals who have two homes i.e., one in mexico and one
in the u.s. who will be greatly affected! tourism is already at it's
lowest point in mexico and that is it's survival......yet now this will
strongly impact those who travel with their pets not only in tourism but
real estate as well. i have a friend and long time resident of san miguel
who was just denied boarding in tampa by american airlines when she
arrived with her two dogs. she paid over $1,000usd for herself and a
friend in order to transport both pets in the cabin. prior to arriving at
the airport last friday the 15th she had contacted the airlines to
reconfirm her departure WITH the two dogs. never once was she informed of
the above ruling nor was she contacted prior to driving all the way to
tampa from sarasota. american refused to refund her friend nor her ticket
as some of the other carriers are doing. as a result she has put her
custom built house on the market for a quick sale.

i implore each of you to take 5 minutes and call the mexican tourist board
(800 446 3942) and register your complaint that you are protesting Article
2.1.2 of the DGAE Circular dated may 10, 2012 in a united effort to the
minister of tourism to repeal this law. the tourist office is counting
each call and registering it. you will be asked your name, phone number
and your u.s. address.

alone i cannot fight the mexican government but with each and everyone of
your individual calls we CAN make a difference. i sincerely thank you for
participating in a cause near and dear to myself and i know many of
you........lita

Also seen elsewhere on the internet. Edited to say, I guess all of those signatures on petitions and phone calls to SECTUR worked. Now the airlines need to change their policies.

From what I've been reading online in the Jatembabaylife.com blog, at least US Airways (that has limited flights out of Mexico) and American airlines are now accepting pets in-cabin again.
It's only a matter of time until they all do.
Yea!!! All the phones calls, emails, faxes, petitions worked!
Take THAT, Big Airlines!
