cerro de cuarto?

Anyone have opinions on the area cerro del cuarto safe , dangerous rowdy etc.?

We rented in the area for a month while building our home here. Never had an issue, but purposely did not walk around there much after dark. However, every time we mentioned the location to others, Nationals or expats, they always offered negative comments or looks relating to safety.

I have similar questions about other areas in Guanajuato. I was last there in 2006 and was told that I could go anywhere, and generally I did, but next month I'm returning and wonder if I should be more selective in my ventures.

A couple of years ago I stumbled across a post somewhere that talked about the third hill gang in Guanajuato City. The post included pictures and probably described the specific area. The gang members were teenagers and may or may not have been a danger.I was unable find the post when I searched recently.

I was wondering about the Cerro Del Cuarto area recently; wondering whether it was safe to hike down to the old mine ruin below the Panoramica.

I also wonder if I can still take the old road/trail down from Valenciana safely, and also wonder whether I could hike down the dirt road from Santa Rosa safely; the road that goes by Presa de Mata.

Has anything changed since 2006 such that I need to be more careful hiking around in the hills?
