Moving from US to GTO - HELP?

Hello Renee,

I can certainly understand your enthusiasm to come back and live in Mexico and in Guanajuato in particular. The main caveat is that if you find employment teaching English and are able to get a permit to work here, you will very likely be making very little $.

I spoke with a Spanish teacher at one of the local Spanish Language schools a few months back who told me her portion of the 250 peso hourly rate the school charged, was 50 pesos an hour.

If you are like most of the human race, and money is a factor, there are a couple of options:

1) Come down and find a job teaching English and see if you can get permanent residency. I did this 28 years ago in Oaxaca. Not sure how hard/simple this process would be now. You will be living a very frugal lifestyle. If you enjoy teaching and can obtain employment it may be very rewarding.

2) Work hard in the US. Live very frugally and save up several thousand dollars. Live off of your savings for a few months or a year in Mexico, but ensure that you have enough money to set up back in the US - or a friend's couch to sleep on - when your money runs out and you return to the US. There are some people that work a couple of months in the US and live the rest of the year in Mexico on a regular basis.

3) Find a job in the US that you can perform remotely. Convince your employer that you can do the job from Mexico. Live in Guanajuato, but get paid in US dollars.
