RE: Disturbing Trend
Yes, it is very disturbing for all who live here.
I live on a callejon in Pastita where there are only two expats, and our "Comite de Vecinos" is working. Everyone has become more aware of what is going on around them and they report suspicious people, or even ask them who they are looking for. We have met twice with reps from Lic. Ugalde's "seguridad ciudadano" office, and once with the head of emergency services.
On Tuesday, July 1st, at 6:30 p.m. we are meeting again with Lic. Ugalde (this time his office said he will come). The CFE is lending us their "salon de fiestas del sindicato" in Pastita, and Cesar Gonzalez (from VREC at Embajadoras) is going to give a presentation about the security cameras he installs. On Friday, we walked with Cesar up my callejon, from Calle Pastita to the Panoramica so he could take photos of where the cameras need to be installed, and what they could cover. Hopefully, enough people will participate to make this financially feasible.
We are also inviting several members of the local press to our meeting on July 1st to put pressure on the Presidencia Municipal to help us out with part of the cost of installing the cameras. We also want them to live up to their promises of more police patrols (they did okay for a few months and then slacked off), youth programs, and of course, those whistles they promised us in December!
If you have any advice about security cameras, please let me know. Also, if you're interested in seeing Cesar's presentation, feel free to attend our meeting.
