Not so sure about paying your gardener, I have a similar situation wit my house cleaner. Regarding Cinco de Mayo, there are holidays in Mexico that are confined to particular regions. Cinco de Mayo is only celebrated in Puebla, which is considered to be the "birthplace" of independence in Mexico (https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinco_de_Mayo).

Regarding the celebration of Cinco de Mayo in the US, it's a marketing ploy by the beer companies in 1989 (https://www.nytimes.com/2018/05/05/busin...story.html).
