Pemex currently has six large refineries. All are located in the eastern and southern areas of the country, where the oil is found. For many years Pemex has bought refined products, including gasoline, from USA refineries to send into its western and northern markets to avoid long distance distribution.
One of those major refineries is in Salamanca, only 50 miles from GTO, and that of course is the principal supply point for our area and much of central Mexico. Closing the Salamanca to Leon pipeline has caused this disruption in supply as trucks and railroad tank cars must assume the delivery burden.
One of AMLOs first actions was to authorize the construction of a new refinery. To be located in his home state of Tabasco.
