hiking group
Starting Hiking group in Guanajuato. Many of us have hiked many of the trails and mountains around Guanajuato. The possibilities are endless.

I lived in San Miguel for a year and they have developed quite a hiking group over the years. Now that I am back in Guanajuato I was hoping to develop a similar group over here.

Here is what works well in San Miguel and I think we can replicate it here.

Here is how it works:

They show up at the same place at the same time every week. Those with cars bring them and those without cars chip in a little for the gas if a drive to the trailhead is involved.

Hike destination is determined through a group discussion taking into consideration: fitness of the hikers present, weather, time required for certain hikes and destination knowledge of the designated leaders. Large groups are sometimes divided into two or three groups. Hikes are never very long and usually last three hours or so.

Sometimes two or three people will show up sometimes thirty people showed up.

The system works very well and been going on for more than 12 years in San Miguel. I have had many people ask me about going on a hike and I think we should try this system in Guanajuato.

The San Miguel group goes on Sunday but myself and several people I have spoken with prefer a Tuesday or Thursday departure day at 8, 8.30 or 9.

Please respond with your comments.

Thanks, Stephen Carew

RE: hiking group
I'd be interested in slow, easy hikes. I work Monday-Thursday, but if a Sunday group starts up, count me in.

RE: hiking group
I have gotten many great responses to the hiking group notice. Our first hike will be this coming Wednesday 25 June at 8.30. Please meet at the top of the Presa de la Olla. By the food vendors. The first hike will be fairly short probably lasting 2-3 hours. Bring a hat, a water bottle and a snack. Please wear sturdy tennis shoes or hiking boots.

Please call me or email me if you have questions. gitano.gtomx@gmail.com. 473-737-3293

Thanks. Stephen Carew

RE: hiking group
The new hiking group is off to a good start. We had a great hike up in Calderones Wednesday. The weather was perfect and the scenery was beautiful. The mountains and cliffs were shrouded in fog.

We are meeting again this Wednesday at the top of the presa (where they serve the food) at 8.30. We will determine where we are headed based upon who shows up and how many cars we have. Heavy rain cancels. Hikes usually last around 2 to 3 hours.

See you Wednesday. Stephen

Our route skirted the village of Santa Ana. This is a view of the new church:
