RE: Eats and Sleeps...economic, but decent.
People seem to like the place on the Jardin Union that's diagonally across from Teatro Juarez. Truco 7 is popular, too. I like the falafel at Habibi and the Indian food at Centro Baharati.
Tripadvisor has a section on Gto restaurants and hotels. The restaurants are here: http://www.tripadvisor.com/RestaurantSea...o&cat=&pid= |

Not sure the name but across the street from the Diego Rivera Statue (not the one it's in front of) is my favorite bargain Cafe,
Excellent meals for 45 pesos. Students 35. Soup (Delicious) Main dish such as Paella , Chicken, Carne Asada or one day some excellent meat balls, drink, rolls & postre, plus salad & rice. 3 choices daily. |

As for eat, you cannot go wrong with Delica Mitsu ! Although it's small, the food is excellent, reasonably priced and is healthy.
The sushi is wonderful, as well as the fish and chicken terriyaki. ENJOY ! |

We agree with above for Delica Mitsu. In addition to menu items they feature a reasonable per item selection from a display case, a fresh-daily selection with a variety of salads, vegetable delights, spring rolls, and a special spicedrice ball to die for, always at fair prices.

RE: Eats and Sleeps...economic, but decent.
Restaurants: Yes, on Mitso. Fonda Antigua only a maybe.
There's a very economical little restaurant (40 pesos, comida starting at 1:30) with an excellent cook nearly opposite the San Francisco church. The recommended restaurant on a Positos corner near the Diego Rivera is also good (paella only on Mondays). If I'm very hungry, I like Un Dia sin Ti (65 pesos, drinks other than agua natural extra) at the bottom of Sangre de Cristo, a buffet starting with soup and then with nine choices - you go into the kitchen to pick what you want. I think Truco 7 is overrated except as a coffee place & I've heard it is one of the two restaurants the city receives complaints about from people who get sick. El Bistro near the Baratillo has opened recently, don't know whether it is economical. The restaurant across from the Diego Rivera statue, entrance on Pocitos, is called El Tulum. Paella on Mondays. As for suggestions about where to stay over, it would help if you would specify your price range and whether a private room in a hostel would be ok or whether you prefer a b& b or hotel. Now a question for you, where do you recommend for tasty, economical meals in or near Leon's historic center? |

Thanks for the Great replies and to you lurkers also, guess you are looking for info like me. Have tried Truco 7 and it was ok, and will probably return again, after trying the other suggestions. We have not been in Leon long and am trying to complete building a house that we started about 5 years ago and never finished, since we were mostly in Chapala for 10 years and Leon was just a stopping off point to visit the wife's family and to attend all those family parties (wife is oldest of 14, so you can imagine there is always some party, somewhere. We have found that the food in Leon generally seems Very expensive and Very average, nothing special so far for us, when compared to Chapala/Ajijic. In time, maybe we will discover something we really like and I will happily share with all. Honestly, we rarely go near the Centro, as we live off Paseo de la Pressa, and 10 minutes to Sam's, WM, Mall, movies, and HEB, etc. Leon is a Big city, like most Big cities. That is why we are interested in spending some time in Gto., smaller like Chapala, just more hilly. The best part of Leon, for us, is our house, which is across the street from the Park, where they stage the Balloon Festival. From out roof (2 stories) the balloons launch about 50 meters in front of the house. WOW ! As for lodging, just looking for clean bed and a bath, and cheap, if it exists. maybe 2-3 nights every 2-3 weeks. Micro would be nice for our morning avena.:P Thanks ! Phil

RE: Eats and Sleeps...economic, but decent.
Eats: The best restaurant I've tried so far is new - above the Bistro at the Baratillo; very delicious and reasonably priced, and I hear the Bistro is also very good.
Stay: You're welcome to check my B&B casabellavistagto.com, or http://www.flipkey.com/guanajuato-vacati...s/p387267/ the flipkey gives you reviews. The rate for the B&B is actually $45/night for a room, double. Panoramic views of the city, walking distance to Centro. |

Check Hostelbookers.com or Hostelworld.com for Guanajuato hostels and reviews. Note that the prices for private room are per person.
You could also google B&Bs. |

RE: Eats and Sleeps...economic, but decent.
At Truco 7, my favs are the enmoladas and enchiladas. There are 2 versions of the restaurant, the smaller, less well-known one has a better (smaller) atmosphere (in my opinion).
Un Dia Sin Ti and Truco 7 are some of the favorites of my husband's family (native Guanajuatans). Oliverio (owner of Un Dia Sin Ti) is very friendly, along with his head cook/waiter. One of the VERY few places in Guanajuato with good service. The Antigua is decent, but there are better places. The other places I haven't tried, but hope to ;) Where is Delicia Mitso? As far as lodging, I might recommend coming early and perusing town as there are many hostels and hotels off the main streets between the Presa & Mercado. |
