satellite TV - jesm - 09-17-2011
Newbies to GTO and looking to evaluate TV options. Read earlier posts here relative to USA Dish network - but more interested in signal quality for DirecTV- does anyone here have experience using DirecTV here and if so what size dish ( 1 mt, 30", etc.) has worked? Local channels not really important- more ESPN, CNN, etc.

Direct TV is not used much now. It has Spot Beamed Lardeo and the signal drops - sure you can get it but dish size has to be greater and greater. DishTV launched a new bird May last year and missed its planned orbit. After 3 adjustments they just couldn't get it 'right' (Dish is friendly to cross border signal link.) That leaves us with Shaw Direct from Canada which works well. Canadian + US channels east or west coast. I'll be back in GTO in the coming week and write more about how to get a contract set-up.

Anyone know how I can get US TV in Thailand?

I tried a 1.4 meter dish in an attempt to pickup Direct TV. I could only get three (shopping) channels from one transponder - nothing else. I believe that Direct TV has shaped it's beam to pretty much eliminate reception very far south of the border. - Paco
