Subject: Texas land for sale: ugly, worthless and encumbered - Doyle Phillips - 07-24-2011 Almost as soon as I bought this parcel my plans for it changed and then when I actually saw the place I bit the dust. It has nothing going for it, with the slight exception of a fairly decent view and I guess the "stars at night are big and bright" if you believe as Texans do. Why did I buy the damn thing? I thought I might haul a camper up to the parcel for the one time in the year when there is something to do there. I refer to the "Terlingua, Texas Chili Cookoff". (A misbegotten event that all Texans treasure and of course there's a website for it.) As far as I know water is scarce and requires very deep drilling to get at it. Electricity when I visited the place was about a mile away. Plenty of wind and relentless heat. The nearest permanent resident was maybe 5 miles away. The two-lane highway to the place has only one watering hole that I remember: which is a VFW saloon and maybe a gas pump. Fillem up, yall. County taxes are understandably low but then the jurisdiction has minimal-to-no consequent obligation. You would die waiting for an ambulance and the sheriff has no reason to patrol such a far-distant mistake. You have to pay yearly dues to a Co-op that's constantly in court. It supposedly maintains the roads, whenever. Your membership does entitle your access to a kind of lodge with swimming pool and maybe a landing strip. (Details http://www.poatri.org/index.html) To hell with it; I just delete the emails now. The only good thing about this deal is it's cheap. Ten plus acres for only $100,000 u.s. dollars. No! no. just kidding. Asking $1,000 for the whole shebang. I said asking. But you also have to poney up for the back taxes and whatever the Co-op might try to wring out of it and all the costs of the transaction (filing fee as far as I know). If you think you might strike oil, forget it. The mineral rights were retained by the thieves who originally owned the land. Could this be your home-sweet-home, Plucky? I have maps and pictures and GPS coordinates if you want to waste your time. Good luck! --Doyle  RE: Subject: Texas land for sale: ugly, worthless and encumbered - fr8as - 07-25-2011 Now that's truth in advertising.:D You made my day! RE: Subject: Texas land for sale: ugly, worthless and encumbered - janetjubilada - 08-12-2011 [quote='Doyle Phillips' pid='1924' dateline='1311557864'] Doyle, this is the best real estate ad I have ever seen. On the basis of the ad alone you deserve at least half what you're asking. Ah the romance that attaches to land . . . I'm convinced humans in general fall in love with property as wisely as we fall in love with people. Buena Suerte! |
