Stop the Lies - False Statements Hurt the Most Vulnerable - Jzmackenzie - 07-07-2011 Friends, Lies are being told about Mexico by the USA press; innocent people are economically suffering as a result. Mexico has a great deal less violence than the USA. To put things in perspective, the murder rate in the Yucatan state of Mexico is 2 per 100,000. That?s about the same as Fond du Lac, Wisconsin or Evansville, Indiana. Mexico City?s is 8 per 100,000. Despite being one of the most populated cities on the planet, that?s on par with Albuquerque, NM. I don?t know about you, but I?ve never felt scared in Albuquerque?here are the facts - http://travel.booklocker.com/2011/05/18/travel-safety-in-perspective-usa-vs-mexico/ The reputation and image of Mexico is under attack by a negative corporate media campaign focusing almost exclusively on drug violence and US immigration issues. Relentless coverage of these problems is only increasing xenophobia, stoking racism, polarizing politicians, ruining international commerce, and imperiling the relationship between the US and Mexico. The world needs to hear the positive news of Mexico--which vastly eclipses the negative in relevance but not in coverage--to inspire these countries to work together to solve their mutual problems. So I signed a petition to Roger Ailes, President of the Fox News Channel, Ken Jautz, President of CNN (Cable News Network), Phil Griffin, Presidents of MSNBC and Anne Sweeney, President of ABC News, which says: "Moderate the US media's sensationalistic and damaging reporting on Mexico to promote a healthier relationship between these important neighboring countries." It is widely available on many webblogs. The FBI report the info is taken from can be found here. I have just added the blog piece to my vacation rental website. I think the more the story circulates on the web the more it will have an effect on changing perceptions of life in Mexico. The online petition may get some notice but it won't change the 'news philosophy' of the networks. What is happening in Mexico is happening in Mexico. The sensational stuff makes the headlines - that's just the way it is regarless the subject. "Good News" just get's the tail-end kicker position on the nightly newscasts. The hard news is just too hard to report - like what to do about the insatiable demand for drugs in the US. |
