your car rental experience? - Doyle Phillips - 03-04-2020

Two rental car agencies (Ace and Budget) prohibit renting a car in MX
and driving it into the U.S. I have read that there is a company that does
allow MX rental and driving into the u.s. but not to exceed 250 miles distant.

I hope it is possible to rent in Nuevo Laredo MX and drive to Austin, 240 miles.

Do you know of a possibility?

Doyle, get the GPS of the bridge (27.5004734 // -99.5027081 -Lincoln International Bridge, Juárez–Lincoln International Bridge, Laredo, TX 78040, USA) and the GPS for your Austin destination. To UT it comes out about 237.5 miles so you are pretty close to the limit - but 1st why is a Mexican company quoting limits in Miles instead of Kilometers as their odometers will be registered in KMs. Best bet is to get rates from the various websites and then start contacting the companies’ Mexican customer service numbers for details on driving restrictions into the US – and you may need extra insurance cover to cross the border in the 1st place. Also if you are getting to NL by bus you’ll want to find a rental company in Centro vs the airport which is pretty far out of town. Another plan would be to arrive in NL and take a taxi* to LRD (the airport) where most of the rentals are. Enterprise is off-airport near the big hospital and cemetery. I have had them pick me up at the La Posada hotel by the river thus cutting out the expensive taxi charge from downtown Laredo to the airport which when I did it once cost more than the car rental. Good luck, its a messy situation no mater how you do it.

* I think some NL taxis can take you across the bridge and into Laredo.
