FM2 to ??? - Doyle Phillips - 10-08-2010 Have you had the experience of going from FM2 to citizenship recently? Like the FM2 in-country requirement, has the time period been shortened? I thought you had to have the FM2 for 5 years but this posting seems to contradict that impression: "The process of naturalization in Mexico is achieved by two methods: immigration or marriage. If a person comes from Latin America, South America or the Iberian Peninsula and has lived in Mexico for 2 years, they can apply for citizenship. Anyone else who has lived in Mexico for 5 years can apply. A person who marries a Mexican natural can become a citizen after 2 years of living in Mexico. In every case, however, the individual must be able to pass a basic history and civics test as well as a Spanish competency test."
