I signed on about a year and a half ago, and have completed the Spanish instruction. It is not the best for a total beginner, and one should expect to pick of some grammar points elsewhere, but it does a decent job of presenting Spanish in a 'game' environment where one can earn points, compete, etc. The Spanish is 'generic' but with a Mexican slant. There are millions of English speakers taking Spanish, and you can learn from the site or a variety of apps. It was originally designed to get people to translate for the interwebs, so don't expect an emphasis on daily conversational skills or topics.

Thanks for posting about Duolingo. So far (two days) it's a lot of fun. It almost seems too good to be true.
