OFFICE OF THE US CONSULATE IN GUANAJUATO CAPITAL - meroberts - 06-17-2010

I would like to take a serious poll.

Who would be interested in having an office of the US Consulate in Guanajuato where you can deliver applications for passports and passport cards, have documents notarized, and do many things that you must travel to SMA to do?

The SMA Consulate is overwhelmed with visitors. Their hours are short and when I visited last Tuesday, Ed Clancy, our Consul, was very happy to know that I had volunteered to assist as "Warden".

I believe that, if we have enough folks interested in having a local office, we might be able to convince the US Embassy in DF to consider opening one here. I also believe that, if and when, we speak to Ed, he would welcome the idea and even help us facilitate the project.

Please vote and comment on this issue. Thank you.

Martha ;)

P.S. I would also appreciate passing this on to other folks in town so we can get a feel for how much interest there is on this issue. I recognize that there are folks that prefer to remain anonymous. They could send me a private e-mail and I promise to keep it confidential. (mer-mx@hotmail.com) I would just get a feel for the numbers. Thank you.

I vote "no" Martha. Sorry, but there are too many Gringos in GTO already. No need to entice more.

Hey Paco, I respect your vote and opinion. However, the purpose of this office would be to serve the foreign community as well as Mexican citizens who have to travel all the way to SMA just to ask a question because they can?t read or write, deliver documentation, have documents notarized, etc.

I honestly do not believe that having an office here would entice or invite more "gringos" (hate that word) to come. If they are coming, they?re coming. Besides, we would not have wanted to stop you from coming Sweetie. We are happy to have you around. ,-) Hehehe

In light of some of the responses that I have received privately, here is a link that fully describes the role of the office of the consul and consular offices. These offices not only assist US citizens, but also tend to the needs of many Mexican citizens who need and/or require their services. Take a look at it.

Hi everyone,

I have received a number of responses in my personal inbox. I very much appreciate your comments and, if possible, will respond as I am able. I would now like to ask the administrator to please remove the poll permanently.

Thanks again for your cooperation.
