This week's Municipal League action at Parque Jos? Aguilar y Maya, ca. Embajadoras:

Thursday, 3:30 PM: Lagos vs. San Diego
Saturday, 3:30 PM: San Jos? vs. Peter's Pizza
Saturday, 7:30 PM: Tigres vs. El Cubo

Also, there's a basketball tournament that's part of the Presa de la Olla Festival. The details are scarce, though; 5 PM at "canchas varios".

I see that Guanajuato has a basketball team (the Abejas) in the Liga Nacional de Baloncesto Profesional. Where is the "arena" in which they play?

Las Abejas - roberb7 - 06-19-2013

They play at La Colmena in Yerbabuena. Looks like their season starts in September. Here's their official site: http://www.proabejas.com.mx/

They are posting the schedule for the Municipal League and the "Liga Especial" on a blackboard in front of the church across the street from the Mercado Hidalgo.

The Municipal League championship game is Saturday at 3:30 PM, Peter's Pizza vs. (I think) Lagos.

The Abejas have started their season, and are 1-1 for their first two games. The next home game is Oct. 10.

Their roster looks interesting. (Keep in mind that the supply of potential pro basketball players far exceeds the demand.)

Steve Monreal: played for Division II Cal State Monterey Bay
Roman Andrade: Played for Division II New Mexico Highlands
James Sandoval: Played for Division II Sonoma State
Steffphon Pettigrew: From Elizabethtown, KY, played for Division I Western Kentucky
McHugh Mattis: From North Lauderdale, FL, played for Division I South Florida, averaged 12.8 points per game in his final season
Stan Brown: From Dolton, IL, played for Division I Lamar, averaged 11.6 PPG in his final season

Went to my first Abejas game last night, and saw them win their seventh straight.

The opposing team, Lechugueros de Le?n, didn't have an answer for Steffphon Pettigrew; he threw in 31 points from everywhere on the court, and did some slick ball handling. Lots of good offensive plays, but the thing I really liked about the game was, there were very few stoppages in play. Only a few timeouts and free throws. If you watch NBA games, this is a huge contrast, and, unfortunately, college games have been running a lot longer, too.

When is the next Basketball game for Abejas?

Not until Nov. 21.
The game I've got on my radar is Dec. 27, against the Toros de Nuevo Laredo, one of the teams currently tied for second place behind the Abejas. They don't play the other second-place team, Halcones Rojos de Veracruz, until Jan. 23.
