RE: Moving to Guanajuato - The Duck - 11-29-2010 go here http://aeropuertosgap.com.mx/aeropuertos/guadalajara/servicios-aeropuerto-guadalajara.html i am typing with one hand and its a little difficult. - the other hand and arm are in a sling. you could try contacting the travel agency there under servicios turisticos i'm sure they can arrange a safe driver to meet you - then look into one-way car rentals and compare. it won't be cheap either way but you'll get here. if you get a quote from a driver make sure gas and tolls are included[they should be] they are around $30 for tolls last i remember good luck RE: Moving to Guanajuato - laconstance - 11-29-2010 Sorry, I don't know the cost of an official taxi from Guadalajara to Guanajuato. The independent people outside the airport who solicited me for a car trip quoted about 1000 pesos, if I remember correctly, but I always used an official taxi to go to the bus station and then to Guanajuato. It's about 200 pesos from the airport to the bus station in Guadalajara. I suppose that first class buses won't take dogs, even in cargo, but don't overlook the second class buses that take all manner of cargo without question. I once was on a bus that had goats loose in the luggage compartment (along with my backpack and other passengers' stuff)! Second and third-class buses go all sorts of circuitous routes, and you may even need to spend the night in some out of the way place. But, think of the stories you would have to tell about your adventure! RE: Moving to Guanajuato - nellyshrp - 11-30-2010 I have no idea how much a taxi from Guadalajara to Guanajuato GTO is - but to give you some idea of an upper mark to begin with. From Durango to Guanajuato which is a 7 hour trip in a taxi we recently negotiated a fee of $4400 pesos. Another quote for an SUV with driver was $1800 pesos per day and we had to pay all costs. And I think we will have enough adventure initially just getting to Guanajuato! Thanks again. Thanks for the detailed info. This helps me estimate what our costs are going to be. Based on your experiences, $3000 pesos for a taxi to Guanajuato would seem reasonable. Regards, Larry Drews RE: Moving to Guanajuato - ldrews - 12-01-2010 Kudos and muchas gracias to Martha Roberts and Marlene Davis regarding our dog transport problem. Martha connected me with Marlene and Marlene turned me on to Delta Airlines which flies into Guadalajara and on which we can take the dog in-cabin. We have made our reservations for January 25, 2011. The flight arrives in Guadalajara about 1:30 pm. So now we just have to get from Guadalajara to Guanajuato, which looks just to be a problem of cost. So far I have been told that the drive takes 2-3 hours and can be done at a negotiated taxi price in the 3500-4000 peso range. Can anybody do better? Regards, Larry Drews RE: Moving to Guanajuato - Garret Johnson - 12-04-2010 Welcome to Guanajuato! We were study spanish in Plateros Spanish School and think they have a great program, you should visit them! We have arranged for initial accomodations at the Hacienda La Escalera for a month, but we will be looking for a longer term rental. |
