Yes, it is a business of connecting people, building networks, etc. But it is also a business that requires experience mostly on the closing: there are always legal things, norms, taxes, etc.
There is not a license for real estate agents, but the government is starting to regulate the agents, now you can get certified by the State of Guanajuato and get a card (this will be a requirement in the future); you take a course, take a exam, and other things in order to pass. Not easy, but not to hard. But I agree, it is a very informal "job" right now in Mexico, and people not always do the right things.
