Social Security requirement if you have a Mexican address
This is a notice from the U.S. Embassy, Mexico City. --Doyle
The Social Security Administration (SSA) has decided to delay suspension of checks for failure to return the annual questionnaire SSA-7161 / SSA-7162 this cycle. (SSA-7162 is for beneficiaries and SSA-7161 is for beneficiaries who have a representative payee) This form is ONLY for those who have a FOREIGN (Mexican) address on file with the SSA. If a beneficiary has his/her US address on file, there is no need to send in the form. In addition, where you receive your direct deposit does not affect this. ALSO – beneficiaries can, if they want, scan and email their paperwork to FBU.Mexico.City@ssa.gov All the details are not yet available; however, based on the guidance, >>we expect that individuals will have until the end of March 2020 to return the form and have it processed.<< We expect SSA will suspend benefit checks starting with the May 3 checks for those who have not gotten the questionnaire processed by the end of March 2020. Beneficiaries may direct any inquiries to the FBUs at FBU.Mexico.City@ssa.gov. SSA is happy to send out forms with instructions and answer questions that may arise. You can also use this email to make a phone call appt. |
