RE: Water delivery
If you are handy and enjoy exercising a few elementary plumbing skills with ice-maker style tubing and don't mind pulling out some filter canisters and changing filters every 6 months or so, then I really enjoy the economy and mental freedom from water purchases that a reverse osmosis system provides.
The one I enjoy here in Mexico consists of something like this: https://www.ebay.com/p/5-Stage-Reverse-O...2623636199 Note (above): You can't buy these systems with the replaceable cartridge canisters here in Mexico or at US Hardware stores anymore because recent marketing pressure and the drive for higher profits has pressured most stores to sell a more "modern" unit that has slimmer filters and they are much more expensive while trading cost for the ease of simply unscrewing them to change them out, tossing the whole "filter tube" in the trash and screwing in a new one, being all that is required for filter changes. Using the disposable cartridge and canister units near nulls the cost benefit of going Reverse Osmosis. So pay careful attention of the filter design and the large standard filter size if you are in the market. Still whether in Mexico or the US, saving money in trade for taking the easy way out on something seems to almost always end up with taking the easy way out winning. For those who think otherwise and more along my lines of "I didn't have that much to do otherwise anyway" well members of my group who are into cost savings will likely want the model I display here even if it can take some time to get the filters replaced. Others can scope out the local hardware stores if the higher replacement filter costs are not an issue. https://www.ebay.com/itm/RO-Booster-Pump...1548466440 Note(above): A R/O system in Mexico always requires an auxiliary booster pump if you are using a tenaco or gravity feed water system. If you have the model plumbing system where there is a pump that pulls from a reservoir and pumps up an expansion tanks, always having similar to USA high-pressure, then you can skip the booster pump. https://amzn.to/2TEWcpg Note(above): If you buy the filters listed in the above link individually in Mexico, you can pay over $500 US for a 3 year supply - OR - you can order from Amazon and get a 3 year supply for $89 US. Remember this $89 from Amazon price is for the type of canister filter (seen in first link above) that when you change a filter you must hold over a bucket, unscrew the housing and pull the filter out, wash it with a Clorox-water mix, replace the filter and close the canister and do this for each canister. The much more expensive filters that are disposable where you only have to unscrew and toss after each use which are sold at places like Home Depot, Lowe's, and Costco are much more expensive to purchase. |
