Seeking Rental in the Campo
My wife and I are going to be moving to GTO soon. We are not familiar with the area. We want to rent a place in the country- about 15-20 mins from town. It can be an unfurnished place but must have the ability to have good wifi installed if it does not have it already. We have a car and dogs. So something outside of centro will probably be best for us. If you know of suggested areas which are safe and reasonably close that would be great. That way we can look online for properties. Or if you know of a place.. it will be a 6-12 month lease. Please let us know.

RE: Seeking Rental in the Campo
Guanajuato, the core city and adjacent communities is actually quite small. When you get 15-20 minutes away br car you are probably looking at semi rural pueblos and should be prepared for a very different style of life than most expats have experienced. Not trying to discourage you as those areas are beautiful, basic and far far less expensive.
A few come to mind: Santa Theresa, Cuevas, Sauceda, Caldarones, El Cubo. If however your 15-20 minutes is by walking, then you easily remain within the principal urban area and surrounding residential areas. More amenities, more expensive. Happy hunting! |

Is wifi available outside of centro? We don't mind living out of the centro area and have done so before but wifi is crucial..

Telmex, MegaCable and Sky are internet providers. If where you are looking has any of those, you have internet access / WiFi

RE: Seeking Rental in the Campo
I would have to agree with Jesm about several of the pueblas he mentioned. From my one-time visits to Calderones, El Cubo, and Monte de San Nicolas, my guess is that you would be the only non-natives living there. Then again I think you could run your dog in or near those areas. Other areas you might consider are Santa Rosa and Santa Ana, aka Llanos de Santa Ana. My guess is that some folks in all of those pueblas have some sort of internet. I live in a city of 100,000 in Colorado, and on every visit to Guanajuato I've found the internet to be a little better in MX.

A bit more.
Most of these rural areas should have internet service thru Telmex the large national telephone utility. Megacable, much newer wired provider, may not yet serve many smaller rural communities. Sky is a satellite service, we use it for TV, but I don’t know anything about their internet offering. I’ll add Puentecillas to the list of attractive pueblos within 20 minute drive. Izzenhood is correct in that many of these spots will have very few, if any, non nationals. |
