looking for plumber/carpenter/tiler/electrician

Im looking for a plumber,carpenter,tiler,and electrician,or a handyman who can do everything.Nothing complicated,changing doors,changing sinks,a little tiling etc.I dont want to pay Gringo prices and i need someone reliable who will finish the job when they say they will.Id appreciate any advice,thanks

Regarding "Gringo prices," I've lived here fourteen years and have never been charged such prices on any kind of work on my home. However, if you approach home contractors with the attitude that they might try to rip you off, they well might.

If your attitude is Us/Them then you are bound to get 'them-ed' regardless the price. Get a good start on life here in Mexico and give up using/thinking 'Gringo' It is a crap way of viewing yourself or the new world around you.

There was a person here a few years ago who if one thought about it a bit was actually a bit of a racist/supremicist. She had nothing but trouble in her micro-managing of the 'help' who would never complete a job as they quit for lack of being dignified in thier labors.

You need to adapt rather than impose your [forgive me the term] "Gringo" values on local population of your new found home.

I guess the way to truly know if your getting a fair price is to ask other people what they are paying. When we did the rebuild of our place we got three bids from 3 maestros and they were all over the place not saying any of them were "Gringo prices" We choose the lower price and it worked out fine. However it probably wouldn't have worked if we weren't around the whole time. So $1500 pesos a week for the Maestro and $1000 for his helper They seemed happy we gave them bonuses cooked food for them etc.

It has taken me a while to find a carpenter that actually shows up when he says. And like Maestros the bids we have gotten from Carpenters are substantially different. Same with plumbers.

You might be sorry if you go for a do it all type of guy. Plumber / electrician yes but carpenters tend to just do wood.

I know a lot of Gringos that paid a lot more than me. What makes me special is my wife she's Mexican

Carpenters usually want half up front be sure to have them sign a note for receipt of payment. Alejandro is the only one who speaks English. I will forward you contact for my tile guy who is very good and reasonable
