Expanding air service
Delta Airlines today announced it will begin direct flights between BJX and Atlanta effective mid-December. Non-stop service to LAX as well. Another testament to the growing economy in central Mexico.

RE: Expanding air service
I just checked despegar.com, and the LAX-BJX flights are in there. 7,000 pesos for mid January. (5,600 pesos for LAX-MEX nonstop via Alaska/Aeromexico on the same dates.) However, the last time I flew anywhere on Delta, I said, "never again".

RE: Expanding air service
Glad to see they are already active. I lived on Delta for most of my business life and they were my carrier of choice. Every airline has a bad flight, or more than one. Not much choice or competition nowadays, and once AMR and US Air merge even less, as there will be only Big 4 in USA. Buen viaje!

RE: Expanding air service
You fellows know your air travel. Which site offers the best costs or is it a crap shoot? I usually book directly via the carriers website but wonder if these others are now better? However, all our Delta travel is courtesy of frequent flyer miles accumulated over many, many years of travel. With our family in ATL that's why this news is so welcome.

Jesm - ITA SOFTWARE is the engine that is running multiple airline databases for fares. It is a research tool but fairly easy to use. One thing it doesn't do is sell tickets - it gives you the raw data in detail to take to a travel agent or to a carrier and have them try to replicate the results*. Another great tool for finding seats once you know what you are looking for is Expert Flyer which will search for seats based on pricing codes and other parameters - works in finding FF seats too.

*note it can come up with fares that may stump less experienced airline or travel agents but all its data comes from the IATA Tariff

RE: Expanding air service
Right now Delta has the cheapest holiday fares to east coast cities, connecting via Atlanta. It's always best to compare via Kayak or IATA Software.
While Delta has descended to new depths of crappiness, American is close behind. Pretty much explains why these two airlines have the cheapest fares out of BJX.

RE: Expanding air service
I really appreciate this thread. Thank you!

BTW- If you are heading south - Taca - Aviana is totally "over the top!" in service. Take-off landing to the minutes and FREE hot meals on any flight of two hours or more. We heard that LAN is even better.

RE: Expanding air service
$309 r/trip seems kind of steep for a 240 mile trip each way [480 mi total] but is a bit faster than the bus* and you could go on the morning flight and come back on either a 3pm or 6pm flight.

*Interjet
50 min flt time
60 min advance arrival at airport
25 min tvl to BJX from GTO
15-20 min deboard to curb at MEX - domestic flt so no Immigration or Aduana
30-60 min taxi from MEX to say Zona Rosa at 9am rush hour
so minimum 180 min going (3 hrs)

vs

the bus [ETN] which is
5-10 min taxi to bus station
300 min bus
15-30 min taxi to Zona Rosa at 10 am still sort of rush hour
so minimum 320 min each way - almost twice the time but still possible to do same day r/trip [I've done it] for a total cost, if you have INAPAM card, of $45 r/t

Cost per min r/t...........time..................fly......................bus......[both excluding taxis etc]
Interjet
$309.............................360................$.86/min ($.64/mile)
ETN
$ 45..............................640..........................................$.07/min ($.09/mile) [w/out Inapam card double it]
plus you get a sandwich and a movie or two!

Times on the returns by air or bus are similar but not exactly the same as going:

DF taxi rides about the same
MEX airport 1 hr or more in advance Terminal del Norte - show up and go.

YES you could, instead of a taxi, use the Metro for a few pesos from/to either of these points.
